Breizh Entropy Congress – Rennes, 15-17 avril 2010
Des personnes passionnées en sciences libres et des associations situées près de Rennes vous invitent à participer au premier “Breizh Entropy Congress”. Cet évènement inter-disciplinaire a pour thème “la création et la culture libre”.
L’organisation du Congrès favorise l’ouverture d’esprit par les échanges des idées, l’apport de solutions à des problèmes ou sujets techniques, sociaux et culturels afin de célébrer l’art et la technologie libre, ré-appropriée et créative.
Le titre comprend le terme “entropie” car pour nous il signifie un moyen de briser les frontières artificielles qui existent entre les disciplines. Avec ce congrès, nous encourageons à faire se rencontrer différentes disciplines, donner la parole à des sciences qui travaillent sur ces sujets mais qui sont peu visibles et découvrir ces domaines d’applications, trouver de nouvelles façons de faire qui se révèlent souvent inattendues.
Ces échanges favorisent la libération, le partage et la réappropriation de technologies qui appartiennent traditionnellement à des entreprises et des laboratoires académiques solidement financés.

Passionate individuals and non-profit organizations from the region of Rennes, Brittany, France invite you to participate in the first Breizh Entropy Congress. This inter-disciplinary event focuses on free (as in freedom) creations and culture.
Through a meeting fostering open-mindedness, exchange of ideas and learning, we hope to show solutions to technical, social and political problems, and celebrate free, reclaimed and creative art and technology.
We happily welcome entropy, as a means to break artificial boundaries between disciplines and find unexpected ways of doing things that promote liberalization, sharing and reclaiming of technologies that traditionnally belonged to the realm of corporations and well-funded academic labs.

Les besoins de base étant des biens communs, ils devraient être accessibles à tous, à savoir que l’accès libre à la terre, aux semences, à l’eau et à l’air non pollué est indispensable. Plus jamais de brevets sur la vie. Le savoir, la technologie et la recherche doivent également faire partie du commun, autant qu’un système de transport local gratuit et que le libre accès à tout autre bien de base d’intérêt général. Il faut stopper net toute tentative de privatisation des propriétés publiques, et renverser la tendance à démunir le domaine public. Il faut défendre le système de la sécurité sociale et l’élargir ; et une politique concrète doit satisfaire les besoins de logements des pays du Sud et du Nord.”

“Reclaim the commons! Basic needs should be available as common goods, that is, there should be essentially free access to land, seeds, water, and unpolluted air. There must be no more patents on life. Knowledge, technology and research should also be part of the commons, as well as free local transportation systems and free access to all other basic goods of general interest. Any attempt to privatise public property has to be stopped, and the trend of selling out the common sphere has to be reversed. Public social security systems must be defended and extended, and concrete policies have to respond to housing needs in the South and North.”

FC X In October 2008, hundreds of students, activists, coders and scholars gathered at UC Berkeley for Free Culture 2008. Between illuminating panel discussions and productive unconference sessions, the free culture community networked and planned for the future. It was there that the Wheeler Declaration was conceived to form the basis for SFC’s current advocacy around opening higher education.
Now, a little more than a year later, Students for Free Culture will be convening the international free culture community for two days of networking, learning and acting. Free Culture X, the 2010 conference of SFC, will take place on February 13th and 14th at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
The vision is to bring together student activists and free culture luminaries to discuss, among other topics, free software and open standards, open access scholarship, open educational resources, network neutrality, and university patent policy, especially in the context of higher education.

The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) is a multilateral trade agreement being negotiated, mostly between OECD countries, in total secrecy. 7th round of negociations from Jan 26th to Jan 29th 2009, in Mexico, is a perfect occasion for exposing ACTA and raise awareness bout how dangerous it is for our fundamental freedoms.

In order to increase public awareness for spreading knowledge and culture, COMMUNIA, the European Thematic Network on the Digital Public Domain, announces the launch of the Public Domain
Manifesto
Developed during the last two years, the document outlines a series of general principles (opening with: the Public Domain is the rule, copyright protection is the exception), then addresses various issues relevant to today’s cultural landscape finally provides some recommendations aimed at protecting the Public Domain and ensuring that it can continue to function in a meaningful way. While these recommendations are applicable across the spectrum of copyright, they are of particular relevance to education, cultural heritage and scientific research.
The document is available in several languages and includes a list of initial signers (both individuals and organizations). Everyone is encouraged to sign it, to follow the Facebook page and… to spread the word with the PDF Press Release.
Dans le cadre du réseau européen COMMUNIA sur le domaine public numérique un “Manifeste pour le domaine public ” a été élaboré. Ce texte est d’ores-et-déjà signé par un ensemble international de juristes, d’institutions de recherche d’éducation ou patrimoniales et d’acteurs de l’innovation et d’internet.
Le manifeste – comme le nom l’indique – développe des principes généraux, mais ceux-ci ont des applications concrètes directes qui en font un véritable outil politique. COMMUNIA produira dans les mois qui viennent des recommandations politiques plus détaillées.
The Fourth Access to Knowledge Conference (A2K4) scheduled to take place at Yale Law School on February 12-13, 2010 is dedicated to a specialized theme: the intersection between access to knowledge and human rights.
Co-editor of the GISWatch, APC is invited to participate to the organisation of the A2K4 conference.

La 4ième conférence Accès aux Savoirs aura lieu à la Yale Law School les 12-13 février 2010. Le thème de cette édition est : le croisement entre Accès aux Savoirs et droits humains.
A Suite à l’impacte de la publication Global Information Society Watch 2009, qui à mit l’emphase sur l’accès aux savoirs pour la démocratie et les droits humains, l’Université de Yale a invité APC, co-éditeur de GISWatch, à co-programmer la quatrième conférence sur l’Accès au savoir (A2K). La conférence, organisée par le projet de Yale sur la société de l’information va réunir les académiques et les activistes sur les droits humains, afin d’examiner la création de lois, de politiques, et d’architectures techniques afin de promouvoir le progrès social à la grandeur du monde. On the recommandation of Silke Helfrich, find enclosed Benni Bärmann’s article. It proposes a perspective based on the Commons Approach (expansion of commons based peer production) to go beyond the crises with the social movement. As she will participate in the FSM-10 years after Seminar, she will translate some of it into portuguese or spanish or at least develop some more thesis on the same issue.

Silke Helfrich développera ces thèses lors du séminaire (présentation en anglais) marquant les 10 ans du forum Social Mondial . Des traductions en espagnol ou en portugais seront préparées à cette occasion.
